Rustic Canadian Caesar Bar Beverage Station
Our bride gets a post wedding day “do-over”!!
Our long-time client, Brooke Sampson Hodgins, had thought long and hard for a unique touch to add to her July wedding. She came up the fun and unique idea of a’ CAESAR BAR’ at cocktail hour. Yummy, colourful, original and OH, SO, CANADIAN.
She enlisted our help at Southern Charm Vintage Rentals to style up the perfect rustic presentation for her feature attraction.
We carefully pre-planned rustic décor to fit her venue at the amazing, historical Newcastle Town Hall. We selected jumbo vintage mason jars with the tomato/clam juice to be iced in a small galvanized tub, a trio of vintage pitchers to hold the garnish of spicy green beans, pepperoni sticks and of course…celery. Mini galvanized pails for lemons and limes sat on larger crates while a tarnished champagne bucket displayed the vodka. A wonderfualy tarnished rustic baker’s stand would display fun and colorful hot sauce bottles with sassy labels and sets of country-themed salt & pepper shakers adorned the top tier for added whimsy. (chickens, wagon wheels, and mini mason jar shakers ). A detailed pattern glass Victorian pedestal bowl worked beautifully as an upscale glass “rimmer” filled with celery salt. And a purple hankie and striped straws would bring in the wedding colours of purple and grey.
The tablescape was perfect and DIY ready for her big day.
Perfect, except for one thing….come wedding day, it never got set up!!!! A Pinterst failure of gigantic proportions. Brooke didn’t know why, but the entire tablescape lay in wait, never to see the light of day. We were both so disappointed as she dropped off her untouched rentals.
We had both been so looking forward to seeing this fun station all decked out. We were crushed! Then, a few hours after she left from dropping off the rentals, I had an idea.
Let’s have a “DO –OVER”!!! I enlisted the help of local photographer David Guest (www.davidguestphotography.com) to help with a mini styled shoot. It wouldn’t be exactly the same as if it were wedding day, but at least we’d see the vision come to life and Brooke could have a few photos for her memory book.
For a surprise touch, Doris Wai of Love Lettering (www.lovelettering.ca) graciously jumped on board to create a fun Caesar Bar logo for our barnwood chalkboard. (I surprised Brooke with this at the shoot).
We chose an abandoned 1800s home as an industrial-rustic back drop and Brooke finally got to see her Caesar Bar come to life….just a couple of weeks late. I loved it and wanted to share the inspiration. And I especially love the smile that this put back on Brooke’s face as she sipped her own Caesar in style.
Sometimes in life…and weddings…we can have a “do over”!
Many thanks to Brooke for this fun and unique idea!

BROOKE AND BRETT ON THEIR WEDDING DAY!
Chelsey and Greg – “Fresh Vintage” Wedding
July 19, 2014
Bloom Field Gardens, Newcastle, ON
So Vintage…So Fresh! Chelsey and Greg held a beautiful garden wedding and reception at Bloom Field Gardens in Newcastle, ON. One of our favourite venues!
Chelsey had carefully chosen each piece of vintage decor over several visits to our shop. The results of her efforts were priceless as you will see in these photos. Vintage decor nested in a clean and fresh white back drop, created the magic we call…FRESH VINTAGE. It all made for stunning results. Here are some details from their day, showing our rentals in action….Chelsey style!
Our whimsical white chalkboard welcomed guest to the Bloom Field’s lush green garden. The rain held off just long enough for her dream of an outdoor wedding to come true, then inside for a delightful white tent reception.
Guests were greeted by a light, white decor with small touches of blush and pink in linens and swags. The head table backdrop was a pair of our 100 year-old antique, chippy-white French doors. Chelsey added a touch of blush with a whispy ribbon bunting swaged across the top. (Bunting by By Invitation Only.) Such a beautiful mix of modern and vintage!
A bird cage for cards matched up with a bird themed chalkboard saying…”You be my glass of wine; I’ll be your shot of whisky”. Lots of our unique, vintage chalkboard added character throughout the venue, from the garden to the menu to whimsy touches reflecting the couple’s personality.
Our antique crates were perfect for mini masons of jam favours with the couple’s engagement photo as lid toppers. I love rustic and glam side by side…and that’s what Chelsey chose by adding fancy French chalkboards next to the rustic crates…a winning contrast every time! The matching large French mirror displayed table seating assignments in an elegant style.
But the real SWOON moment came at the cake cutting table — a featured attraction with our grandest vintage, ruffle, pedestal glass cake stand atop a vintage mirror tray. So romantic as it paired perfectly with a stunning ruffle cake by The Cocoa Cakery.
Chelsey and Greg looked so relaxed and happy, and the rain didn’t dampen their spirits a bit. As a matter of fact, it made for the perfect romantic setting as the couple stole a few moments to catch the drops in this amazing late night photo.
Our thanks to Chelsey and Greg for choosing Southern Charm Vintage Rentals for your vintage decor. This is DIY done to perfection.
